The city of Guwahati is located in the Eastern region of the country. It is situated in the Indian state of Assam. It is the largest city of Assam and well known as the fast developing region of the state. Guwahati was formerly known as Pragjyotishpura and Durjoya. It is an ancient city and has significant past history. The city of Guwahati is also referred as the Gateway to the Eastern India. Due to its prominent and significant location as well as due to its rapid development , Guwahati has become the main junction of trade, finance, commerce and other developments. This city has a beautiful city location and is full with lush green trees. A pollution free zone and beautiful tourism locations often attract tourists from various locations and places. Many ancient Hindu temples are also situated in the city.

In the past few decades this region has developed impressively and has proved its mettle in every field of work and development. Till date Guwahati has established a good number of small, medium and large scale industries and businesses. It is also one of the fastest emerging IT sectors of the country. It has also become the major commercial as well as the educational hub of the region. The city is also the administrative unit of Guwahati district and division. The civic administration of the city is maintained by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation. People from all round the country relocate to Guwahati in search of better job opportunities, safe and secure residential locations and a strong education sector. The locals are provided with the best possible public amenities and facilities.

The educational sector of the city is a strong point of the region. Here you will find age old institutions which are proficient in providing quality education to the students. One of the strong beliefs of these institutes is that each and every student should be provided with equal opportunities so that they could grow to their utmost limit in their lives. Till date the city has established and founded hundreds of schools, colleges, universities, research academies and other educational institutions. Some of the top notch educational institutions of the city are as follows, the Guwahati University, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the Assam Engineering College, the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, and the Assam Institute of Management. The schools are affiliated with one of the following boards, CBSE, ICSE, IB, NIOS and other state boards. These institutes are administered either by the government or by some private trust or organization. In some cases the schools are administered by the private trust or organization but are funded by the government.

The schools are located near the residential locations and for the distant students they do provide the transportation facility. The schools here believe in providing the world best educational facilities to the students. Here schools have this interactive form of teaching that helps the students to deal with the tough concepts. These schools envision creating the world class leaders of tomorrow. The Schools of the city is preferred to the schools in India because the city is conducting to power of education in India.

Munich Philharmonic Orchestra will present a concert at the opening of the Beijing Music Festival in October, led by Andris Poga. Themed on late German composer Richard Strauss, this year's Beijing Music Festival will also celebrate the life of Chinese musician Huang Zi. Chen Jie reports.

Beijing holds quite a few cultural events throughout the year, but fans of classical music usually look forward to the month of October because of the Beijing Music Festival, an annual feature that helps bring to China the latest global productions.

The festival is fresh as it isn't about outdated Western artists' tours of China or unknown orchestras looking to make some easy money.

Last year, when it was the birth anniversaries of Italian opera master Giuseppe Verdi and German composer Richard Wagner, the festival presented many concerts to honor the musical giants - both were born in 1813.

This year, the festival will focus on the late German composer Richard Strauss.

Some 19 performances will be presented from October 9 to 31, including operas, symphonic concerts, chamber music, choir and children's concerts. There will be two operas and 16 orchestral works among significant works by the composer.

"Richard Strauss was the leading composer of the late Romantic and early Modern eras, representing German Romanticism after Richard Wagner," says Yu Long, founder and artistic director of the BMF. "But he is not known in China. Many Chinese even confuse him with 'waltz king' Johann Strauss II, the Austrian composer of light music."

Lorin Maazel was expected to direct the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra at the opening of the festival, but with Maazel's passing away on July 13, the task now falls on Andris Poga.

Poga, a Latvian composer and now the musical director for the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, won the top prize at the Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition in 2010.

Under his baton, Munich Philharmonic Orchestra will play two concerts for all Strauss-related programs. The first evening will feature Metamorphosen and Eine Alpensinfonie. The second evening will have Don Quixote, Don Juan and Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche.

Munich Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1893 in Strauss' hometown and the orchestra has since become one of Europe's finest.

Renowned Austrian-Hungarian conductor Gustav Mahler directed the orchestra in .
